Karate uniforms are much lighter weight in most cases and some are so light weight material wise that they will get torn off your back in any kind of hard grappling. For this reason I always wore heavy weight canvas uniforms when teaching my classes at my karate school wich also included aspects of judo, jujitsu and aikido also being taught and most of my students did also once they reached the intermediate ranks.
