Throughout my childhood I was bullied and made fun of for “talking white” just as my mother and grandmother were. I was called an Oreo and told I thought I was white. My young brother and sister were as well. The three of us have adapted well and have learned how to “flip it” as we call it. Our lingo matches our environment. Unfortunately, my older did not. If they’re acting black … I’m going to have a problem with it. They usually lived in areas that were known as hood. They naturally spoke and dressed like Black people. They understood hood culture.
