I have a cover band that plays bars every weekend. I can clear $20k per year going that. It’s a fantastic part time job. I guess I only still produce original music for the love of it. There’s no money in it for most, no matter how talented you are. You have to have some quality the record companies want to market. Then they will make famous. They will dress you. They will write your songs . They will record your songs. They will give you lessons and auto tune you. Then, when you are selling enough music that you have finally paid them back, which probably wont happen according to their contract, they dump you for the next hot thing. You will be nothing but a tool for them. You will be the next Kesha. Grim. If you are gonna write music, do it out of love for your craft. Perhaps if you have something original or interesting enough, you will get lucky. Just don’t quit your day job.
