So I travel to the city centre regularly. I also spend a several years working in the city centre Manchester is always busy. Packed with the most varied group of people you will ever see. Every race, gender, colour, language and personality you could ever hope to meet. Walking through the city center is like walking through a carnival, theres always something to see, hear, taste and smell.

But its rare. In general people get on with each other. In my entire life I have never felt unsafe in Manchester. I have spend many a night out in Manchester over the years, in every stage of sobriety (from just finished work and not had a drink since last weekend, to far far too much to drink, but someone bought a round of shots so why not). Even late at night and worse for wear, I’ve always felt safe. Always got home. And that’s never changed. On the evening of the Manchester bombing recently I was working late. I didn’t read or watch the news when I had finished so I didn’t know anything about it. I woke up the next morning to a text message sent fairly early by my friend asking if I was ok. When I replied, she explained about the incident in Manchester and was worried. I think logically she knows I don’t live in the city centre, but I think she just saw Manchester on the news and not knowing exactly where the Arena is, she panicked. Maybe I was working near there or had been on a night out. I think she even apologised if she woke me up. (If you ever read this Steph, then I just want to say thank you. If you ever need to wake me up /call me /text me at a random time because you are worried about me, then be my guest. I don’t care what time it is or how inappropriate it might be. It means a lot to me that you care so much.)
