As I said before, he wasn’t a technical player, and he could be a little sloppy sometimes, but his playing was instantly recognisable. He was, in his own words, the best Keith Moon drummer in the world.

Ringo Starr, Dave Clark, Mick Avery and Keith Moon. They were the best at that time. Keith Moon was self taught and many self taught drummers bypass the drum rudiments and learn only the basic single stroke roll. And this was the problem with Keith, he only used the single stroke roll although he could do a hell of a 32nd note drum roll using that single stroke roll. Imagine what Keith Moon could have drummed like if he knew his drum rudiments. So I would say his lack of rudiment knowledge impeded his drumming, however, he is one of the most beloved, copied and enjoyed drummers on the planet. As he said, “I’m the best Keith Moon style drummer there is.”
