I reached over to her and let her sniff my hand, before I slowly reached up to gently stroke her head. She froze in fear, as she decided what to do. I was afraid that she was going to run, but instead, she started to purr. It took a minute before she drank, but once she started, she didn’t stop until every drop was gone. As she drank, her eyes didn’t leave mine. Then I proceeded to fill a bowl with Friskies, and placed that under there as well. I sat on the floor by the food, and tried to coax the cat to come over to it. It took a moment, but she slowly came over to me. She sniffed the food, then looked up to me, as if she were asking for permission. “Go ahead,” I told her. “It’s all yours.” She went to town on it. It must have been a long time since she’s eaten last.
