Having been one of those guys for over 40 years, I’ve been able to help customers from buying outright lemons and clunkers as well as saving them some serious money on the UFC Anti Social Social Club Vintage Shirt But I will love this car, or truck, they were looking at. For example, I went with one guy who was looking at buying a basic used pickup truck with about 70,000 miles on the odometer. 70k on the clock isn’t excessive mileage on a 4 or 5 year old truck and it appeared to be in very good shape. The tires were like new and the interior was immaculate. There was a full list of receipts for every required oil change in the glove box. The dealer was asking about 3000 dollars over average book retail for the truck and it looked clean enough to be worth it. First, I drove him to the lot in my truck, so the dealer would not know what, if anything, he had for a trade in. Then we left my truck there and we drove it to my shop and I put it up on the rack and went over it with a fine toothed comb. Mechanically the truck was perfect, except, there was a ton of over spray paint on the underside of the frame, that someone had covered with some spray can undercoating. A little more digging and it became obvious that the truck had been in an accident that required replacing the bed. The frame was straight and solid and the repair work was flawless. After an hour of examination we drove back to the dealer and I told the customer to offer the dealer 5000 dollars less than his asking price. Of course the salesman went ballistic, claiming the truck was like brand new and in mint condition. That is until I pointed out that the bed had been replaced and the entire rear half of the truck had been repainted. Of course he called me a liar and we had him put the truck up on a rack and I showed him where the pretty fire engine red paint was missing on the underside of the bed which was still the original white finish. From that point on, the deal went completely different and the man bought the truck for 5000 dollars less and he left the place a happy camper in his new, used pickup truck. I had told him that I would charge him $100 dollars to check out the vehicle and when we got back to my shop, he handed me $500! I took my $100 and handed him back the rest and he just stood there and stared at me. “But you just saved me $5000 dollars”, he replied. “No I didn’t, I just stopped the dealer from stealing $5000 from you”, I said. Needless to say he became a loyal customer for life and to this day, 10 years later, he’s still driving that shiny red pickup truck.
That was just one of the UFC Anti Social Social Club Vintage Shirt But I will love this many times I’ve saved innocent people from being taken advantage of by a crooked or unknowing dealer. In most cases however the results are not so good. Many times the vehicles are pretty much as they are presented or they are total junk with a new paint job, but about 15 to 20 percent of the time it works out pretty well. There are also just some vehicles that no matter how “clean” they are, they were just junk from the day they were built and aren’t worth buying at any price. Like vehicles with direct fuel injection, or CVT transmissions, or all wheel drive. When these vehicles reach between 70 and 100 thousand miles, they are like a ticking time bomb and in a very short time they will be needing thousands of dollars in repair work. And the repairs will exceed the value of the vehicle, even if someone gave it to you for free!
